The tour around Hong Kong scheduled for the returned missionaries who served under Pres. Wheat was made available to us due to the graciousness of Pres. Wheat and his wife, Donnetta, who essentially called and cancelled their own seats (they are in their 70's and didn't think they could make the whole day tour) asking for them to be given to us. We visited the Kam Tong Hall where all of our baptisms were performed 40 years ago. It has now been traded to the city for the property where the new red brick, pillared Church Area Administrative Offices (13 story building) now stands (see earlier post). The Kam Tong has now been converted into the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Museum but they kept the baptismal font (now behind glass with an explanation of its former use by the Church). Caroline Kwok pictured with us here was a member back when we were here and subsequently served as a missionary under Pres. Wheat. The tallest building in Hong Kong (right) and land being reclaimed from what was Hong Kong Harbor (most of the high-rises you see in these pictures are built on reclaimed land). Some say the "harbor" is becoming a "canal" as land is reclaimed on either side for more buildings.
A visit to the New Territories took us to Tun Mun where we enjoyed a dimsam (ala carte) lunch. We then visited Yuen Long where the Church built its first chapel in Hong Kong. Here is the small baptismal font and original chapel seating still in use. Finally we visited a fishing village called Sai Kung.
